Let's face it, the FCC site is not very user friendly. There are services out there that will renew your license for you, but they can be intrusive and require a lot of private information to accomplish it.

The FCC has some instructions that should get you on the right path.

HamStudy has excellent documentation of the process. This is an older document and does not mention the $35 renewal fee.
